Barkley Meadows Park is a community park located in eastern Travis County and bordered by Onion Creek. The land was acquired from sisters JaNet Barkley-Booher and Carolyn Barkley, whose family owned land in the area for over a century, and rancher Dan Berdoll. One of Travis County’s most recent parkland acquisitions, the park opened in 2014 and features large pecan and oak trees, grassy picnic areas, concrete paths, a pond, and a historical bridge that crosses a tributary of Onion Creek. The road that once crossed the bridge was the primary road from Bastrop to Austin in the 1800s and early 1900s.
