The Travis County Archives is pleased to announce a partnership between Travis County and the Austin Friends of Folk Art, to store AFFA’s collection of artifacts, photographs, materials and objects at the Travis County Archives. We look forward to making these items available to the public through exhibits and displays throughout county buildings.

A very beautiful Tree of Life.mix came across one in an antique shop and made the purchase, even before I knew the history or even what it was. It was quebec and I could tell it was about the story of Adam and Eve, but I was enthralled by the colors and the work. It has suffered some damage but I would like to repair it.
I at first thought it might have been pillaged from a Central American or American Catholicnchurch and thought that I might find it’s proper home but now I know that these were and are a folk art from Mexico. I am wondering if someone might be able to date and/or identify ut if I sent photos? Also, it seems to be a wall hanging, or, someone ripped it from it’s base, or broken the bottom part of the base, either way, that too could be repaired. I don’t want to do any cultural damage to it however, and would appreciate your help.
Hi CJ,
Please send us photos of the tree at life to this email address: contact@mail.folkartmuseumcentraltx.org
We cannot promise we will be able to authenticate the tree, but we will do our best to assess it. Thanks!
